Spitfire steering wheel change
« on: March 26, 2017, 07:24:50 PM »
Long before I got the Spitfire a friend gave me the older style Banjo steering wheel for it. I no longer even recall why but I like it much better than the newer style safety wheel. Fortunately it's a simple and quick swap. I like it much better. The new wheel is no prize it's got some cracks and lots of patina but so does the car so I can overlook a few flaws.

I always liked the banjo wheels better. They just seemed more natural feeling to me.

I like the looks a lot better and it just feels right.

Brophy I don't know if TR6's ever had a banjo mine has one similar to the one the Spitfire had but is a bit better made. Speaking of - how is yours coming along?

Side pipe it's only an I4.

Lucas electrics make sure there are plenty of flames.

Well informal poll of daughters. They all like the banjo better.

I4 four pipes coming out. Just run them say three feet from the wiring harness and you'll have flames.   Lol jk

My TR is getting duals and it is an I6....why not for an I4? Bet it would sound great!!

....and I agree with Lucas flames. :-)

That is funny.

Please thank the daughters for their input.

Brophy it has a header I assume the original manifold cracked - they were known to do so. Since I fixed the exhaust leaks it sounds pretty good - similar note to a stock TR6. Might be because the muffler had a large hole so maybe the baffles inside are gone. The tailpipes on this one face up a little so water runs right into the muffler.

I drove it earlier for the first time earlier tonight and I like the new wheel a lot better. I thought I had the wheels dead straight but I guess not the spokes are about 45* off so I have to readjust.
