Good info.  I have (or had) a range of vehicles and machinery over the years that have used almost all of the various standards - sometimes on the same piece of equipment.

All I can say is thank goodness for the French and their eminently sensible Metric system...

I agree on the Metric system. I find myself using SAE often alongside Metric, but Whitworth has almost disappeared, unless I come across older generation vehicles and they are rare.

Then, of course, ISO ANZI DIN and JIS could never quite agree on the finer points of metric nuts and bolts, but still...

I only very rarely drag the Whitworth kit out when  tinkering on some very old farm equipment, otherwise its a combo of SAE and metric on the cars, and metric only on the motorbikes.

Yeah, I wonder sometimes if Metric will ever be replaced by something else in the future, but that remains to be seen.
