A Moron and his money is soon parted
« on: December 01, 2010, 09:15:11 PM »
Editorial note:

Elroy likes a good time and is simply having some fun here so don't get yer panties all in a bunch

So you think Elroy is a Moron and fool with his money  wtfx

Allow the Chief Moron to show you how to collect good tools on the cheap.

Elroy picked up these rust covered #356 Channellock end cutters up the other day of a single dollar. Now remember, these were only a buck.

Man what a GREAT DEAL. But only a MORON would sink good money into some POS cutters.

So what do ya think?? Is Elroy a Moron??

Not at all. Some of my most treasured tools were fished out of five gallon buckets full of rain water. Saving a tool that has been misused and neglected is pretty satisfying.

No, Fedwrench thinks Elroy is crazy like a fox. A little evaporust, a little fine emory cloth, a little time. Elroy has rescued an abandoned tool and saved  $15.70. thumbsup2

Are you sure of that. Why exactly my goodfellow man  :-*

No, Fedwrench thinks Elroy is crazy like a fox.

Don't think for a minute Elroy is a dumb ass. He just plays that game for fun.

So lets see how they turned out shall we

Before:

After:

And the logo Stamping before:

After:

And the front edge before:

After that Moron got done with them:

So when Elroy hears some jerk brag about his $35,000 in tools. Elroy think he's the real moron cause Elroy has the same stuff and it only cost Elroy a "buck"

Besides that there is nothing like having sets:

Then again Elroy actually prefers the original style rivet to the current offerings

All told this clean up took less than a half hour. So I guess you could say Elroy made about $36 an hour this evening  :P

Tell Elroy I would have jumped at a pair of those for a buck!  You can be sure that my rust removal skills pale in comparison to Elroy's!  Excellent Work  thumbsup2

They came out real nice, I have the exact same nippers (or extremely similar) that I bought in almost the same condition, I always look for the diamond in the rough. I cleaned mine up a bit but not that nice.

I think a lot of Elroy's good clean up threads went up in smoke with GH.  In fact I think one of those threads extolled the virtues of Barkeepers Friend as a rust remover.  I have added it to my arsenal where it has more than pulled its own weight.  Besides that, it turns red shop rags purple!

I think Elroy knows UB would have jumped on those in a hot second. Of course I would have cleaned the rusted steel and the dirtied blue covering, though I doubt that my efforts would likely have looked quite as good as Elroy's. I am inclined to believe that is because Elroy takes a few extra measures that really assure a quality resto that I would not.
You boys better hold on cause i'm gonna have to stand on it!

Yep. The Bar Keeper was on duty this evening.
