HERE'S ONE FOR THE J.C.PENNEY COLLECTORS
« on: November 14, 2017, 10:47:09 PM »
I found this set of J.C.Penney ratcheting wrenches at a garage sale not long ago. 3/8" - 3/4" set.

+1 -- have a metric and SAE set sitting in the box and they haven't been used in over a decade. The mechanisms are are just too clunky -- and they never felt right.

They do look in pristine shape -- and the fact that they are JC Penney tools probably makes them quite collectible

I have a few J.C. Penney combo wrenches that look and feel just like Snap On wrenches.

Ray, I hear you on being clunky, and that would certainly affect working in tight quarters.  I have a set that hangs on the pegboard at the shop and they get used for screwing quick coupler plugs on hoses and guns, nozzles into wands etc.  When you are doing a bunch at a time and access is clear, they work well.

Of course more modern ones work also but the old ones with no offset work a bit better.

My big beef with modern "gearwrench" is they wear out and break too quickly.  Not that I would ever crank on one hidex

Ken, they are cool and its neat to get old tools in pristine condition
That scalloped box end is one of the few BB features that doesn't make Elroy puke

The wrenches I have that look like those, are branded Snapon,  Mac, Cornwell.   Til you look at the name,  can't really see any difference.  Have used mine quite a lot, even the 1/4 in.  There was something on a Ford that I would borrow a co-workers 7/8 - 1 in. size, suspension parts.  Did finally buy some Gearwrench style in Metric, good for tighter spots, but can't say I fell in love with them.
