It won't buff out
« on: April 15, 2018, 09:21:02 PM »
Not my daily driver, but seeing it often enough that it is for somebody.   Camino was caught in our 2014 hail storm.   The top side as well as drivers side is pounded.  There were some hit much harder in town, not seeing as many now four years later.  I don't live in that town, so mine were spared.

Man that would break a blokes heart sadx
There is a very fine line between a hobby and a mental illness.

Does the need justify the want ? Or does the want suffice?

That would be tough to have your vehicle look like that. I was always worried about encountering hail and show up to a customer and have their new airplane looking like that. panicx

I would not drive it long looking like that. Heck, replace the front clip and pay a guy to work out the top. I am sure I would be able to figure out the rest in some way too. Heck, even if you did nothing more that fill the depressions with mud, sand then refinish it would look a lot better than that does.

Mud might make that hood kind of heavy.  Besides the whole drivers side looks like that too.  It was a very intense storm, moving east, but the winds, and hail it brought were blowing from the North.  The vehicles in it were hammered on that side as well as the top.   I see the Camino owner didn't even bother to replace the windshield trim.

I would not mud a hood that looked like that. Even as a kid in HS I would have found a donor front clip, and any other easily replaced parts that were beat to crap like that I would swap parts then repaint. If I could not easily swap a part or pound the dent out then honestly if it was a driver I would fill those with mud (then try to hide that!  hidex) LOL I am not a hack, but on a daily driver I would likely take a shortcut if I had too.
