Title: Counterfeit PROTO octa hammer handles found...
Post by: OldnSlo on August 08, 2017, 03:22:29 PM
...well, perhaps not found, but home-crafted. Allow me to continue....

This lil bugger of a lead hammer head was begging for me to bring it home from the dirt swap, but I knew I didn't have a hammer handle in stock that would scratch the itch. After viewing a few of my Frankenstein "too thick" home made (make no mistake, these are not SHOP made) body shop hammer handles, I knew I had to up my game a notch or two.

....a few deft saw cuts using the clamp as a guiding flat surface, and I had my rough outline showing off 8 sides.

I'll ponder how I will make my round profile handle end and will probably use a wood rasp for those finer profile cuts.

Green paint on the handle end? You betcha! That's the final finish.

I don't believe house handles has a direct replacement for proto body hammers. Thier eyes are a different size and shape. I guess i could use a larger handle and trim it and lose the balance but then again i could do bodywork with a claw hammer.

Are you going to wedge a wooden handle in a lead hammer?
Usually they are cast in place.

Nice idea for handles regardless.
Looks good.

Is there any other tool for body work? I mean, other than duct tape.

chicken wire, newspaper and body filler.  Did that to a 1958 Ford which was already rusted out in 1963.  In fact, it had no floor in the trunk so it could not be used.  Wife comes home one day and says "something is wrong with the gas pedal".  I take a look, floor rusted out and pedal is no longer there, wife was pushing on the lever from the firewall. :))

Old T-shirts, rags and saran wrap stuffed in along with the newspapers.  Add a few pounds of Bondo and voila!
