Great plan for the trap. For anyone interested I added a short piece of 1" pipe out each top connector with a 1-1/2" x 1" pvc bushing ($1.26) and a 1-1/2" x 1- 1/4" pvc DWV adapter ($1.15). I now have two slip joint connectors that fit vac hose spout without needing tape or modifying. Found both at HD

Wish I'd seen this before I siliconed mine.

Where did you did that attachment the vac hose hooks to the cabinet with?

I measured the opening -- it's a standard size, and went to Sears for an extra vac hose with the same end-cap dimensions as the cabinet outlet.

I love this idea for the dust trap!  I tried building one at work but it keeps sucking water into the vacuum.  I kept the pvc pipe above the water line too.  Any idea why it's doing this?  Is my vacuum maybe too strong?

Your vacuum is likely too strong -- shorten the PVC pipe and use less water. Water should just be enough to cover the bottom of the bucket -- 1/2" of water is enough for my large Ridgid 3/4HP vac.

Good luck!

Also: remember that the intake port (dust cabinet side) should be the long PVC tube that terminates just above the water. You vac should be hooked  up to the other port (i.e., the very short side piece of PVC elbow that resides just underneath the bucket cover.

Some folks hook their vac up to the wrong side and get this same problem.

Thank you for posting this. I've seen a dozen "how to's" on the subject of dust collection on YouTube and yours is so simple and effective.
