There is a very fine line between a hobby and a mental illness.

Does the need justify the want ? Or does the want suffice?

About 10 years back I spent $500 on an Atlas metal shaper and Atlas milling machine I bought as a pair. I told the wife what I did. Wife was mad as a wet hen, there was no smoothing down her ruffled feathers either. I have been hearing about that $500 ever since at least once or twice a year. I figure that will likely continue until I croak.

Looking back, I think I should just done it and not told her a thing. After ten years I will admit that I am tired of hearing about that.

I don't tell my wife what to buy and she doesn't tell me what to buy.
We both earn money and share the bills.
Other than that, we buy what we want to buy, when we want to buy it.
She has her things she likes to buy and I have mine.
I suppose if either of us were spending a lot of bad habits, that would be another thing.

Mrs Farley doesn't get all outta shape about my purchases of "stuff" and I don't mind about her purchases.  I get what I want when I see it (esp if it's a deal) and so does she.   She has her $$$ and I have mine

However, one problem that this does lead to is  "What can I get her for Christmas?"  If there is anything she wanted - she already went out & got it.  And, by definition, I am impossible to buy for as well.   (This weekend is our anniversary (39th)  :-* and also her birthday, and I am - as per usual - clueless about what to get her  confusedx)

We have the exact same problem.  We pretty much have everything we want within reason because we buy it for ourselves.
Usually we give each other lists and pick a few things off that.
We also try not to buy anything for ourselves a month or two before Christmas or Birthdays.
It's a tough time of year for me... Christmas, her birthday in January and then Valentines day.

Congrats on the 39th!  We're only at 15 years.
