UB,

+1,  It's a nice storage design, but is really old, grimy, and probably well worn.  Would take some serious time to disassemble, scrub, lube, and put back into service.

The seller should pay the buyer $700 for cleaning up his filth.

Agreed on all of the condition and requirements needed to put it back in good service. Observations aside I know that if I needed a combo set I could easily justify $250-300 for that set. I have bought several top boxes and a roller or two in that kind of condition. It does require a lot of time and work to put a set like that back in good shape, but if you put in the effort to do the job right the results can be absolutely incredible!

Just like that recent project you completed, night and day difference from what it was, to what it is now!
You boys better hold on cause i'm gonna have to stand on it!

UB,

Tru dat.  And I have done my fair share of restorations on all kinds of cabinets and chests.  But the older I get... the less I get excited about tackling another basket case.  In fact, I've got an old Bonney roll cab  & chest sitting in the corner waiting for me to get motivated  :-\

Looks perfectly useable as is, it's in better shape than my uncle's toolbox.

Price is too high but looks like the wider variety so that makes it better.  UB, your thinking is about right.  It may clean up decently and I have found that a good blast with degreaser and a hot water washer makes the first stab at cleaning go quick and most times that is as far as I go on a box like that.  Coat the paint with wd 40 or linseed oil, quick lube the slides and put her to use.  Oh, put some drawer liners in it too.

Even a quick redo takes time.

Ya, way high. Too much old/used and abused/mismatched and cheap tools. If you remove all the crap the really good stuff is not enough to justify the price. For that kind of money everything needs to be much higher quality. I would also expect to see full tap/die sets USA made included, quality air tools, not cheap stuff. I would also expect to see a good compliment of pullers that are not HOBO freight crap. Other things I would expect to see might be meters, gages or a timing light.

Just a whole lot more than what he was showing for me to see value in it.

This car is a pile of crap. Noisy, rattly, slow and underpowered and has a reputation for being unreliable. I want one.

We should have another thread entitled "The Ridiculous Craigslist OFFERS on Toolboxes" Thread

I'm trying to make room for my vintage boxes so here's my listing for a KRA double bank roll cab with a MAC side box for $1200, which I think is a slammin' deal.  Best offer so far: $300
