Vise-Grip Display board and tools. (copywrite 1977)
« on: May 25, 2017, 11:24:45 AM »
My brother who is 75 years old, recently was hit by a car.  During the last 45 - 50 years he owned and operated an Automatic Transmission business.  We are attempting to place a value on some of the tools he used.

Specifically, a Vise-Grip Display Board with 14 tools complete.  It is labelled as a "Tool Center" and the header says "Copyrite 1977".

We have searched the Internet thoroughly and can not find another copy of this Display Board.

Appreciate any help to place a value on this item.

To me that is $50 at most for the right guy which I am not that guy. I think likely $25-30 for most guys in my opinion, but maybe I am wrong too, that would not be a first. Lets see what other here say.

I worked at an auto part store 25 + years ago and there was a Vise Grip rack like that one. It never seemed to be full. Always an empty spot. I think around my area someone would be asking in the $ 100.00 range. I would defiantly pay $ 50.00 for it. I could fill that board up 2-3 times with my extras.

Nice board. I have one but it's a little different. I agree with the guys on pricing in between the top range they gave, if nice condition. Which it is. Just my opinion.

I'm too cheap to pay retail for most things.

i think the guys are in the ball park.

the odd man out may be in your description. you mention complete with 14 tools. if you in fact have all of the items in good or reasonably good shape, that is a different story. then it is worth much more. since they took mfg off shore, us made vise grip have become more collectable/desirable.

I missed the 14 tool. Yes that changes everything!

Gang,

The USA made Vise Grip tools at my local flea market and pawn shops are highly sought after.

-locking pliers go for $5 - $15 depending on condition

-clamps & chain wrenches go for $10 to $25 depending on condition

-for some unknown reason the welders clamps are in extreme high demand, they disappear as soon as they hit the table/case.

What kind of prices are you guys seeing?

Totally agree on all the points Gary. I'll add that in my area US made "C" clamps are also very popular. Thanks to Phil I have enough (for now), but my neighbor was looking for weeks to find a good pair of large US made "C" clamps at a reasonable price. He said that as soon as they were listed, mostly small contractors just swooped in and picked them up -- often offering above asking price.
