Toolbox reference information (paint codes etc)
« on: June 18, 2010, 09:20:43 AM »
This is supposed to be a paint code for Snap-on red.

The Snap On red is PPG 73219.

According to Snap-on rep Chadster1, the following is the code for Snap-on paint color match.

According to my info, Snap on red is

PPG Wet Spray Ditzler code: 73504

Another option shared by Lookin4_67Galaxieconv  below VVVVV

Here is info from a thread on the other site for a spray bomb color very similar to snap on orange.  I haven't used this or even bought it yet, but am planning to use this color on the next box I redo, a small Snap on 9 drawer top box.

TRU VALUE X-O RUST
Anti-rust enamel
Gloss
XO41 Hot Red

brockstar contributed this: Others have reported Rustoleum Sunrise Red rattle can as being close to Snappy Red.

You can also try these:

Color                          PPG Powder         PPG Ditzler
                                                           Wet Spray No.

Red                             AR320 Resin         73504
Black (High Gloss)       PCU-90200            9895 (9300)
Royal Blue                  PCU-50134            19026
Cranberry                    PCU-60139            51797
Ultra Yellow                 PCU-30115            84199
Green Mica                  PCU-43100            47767
Deep Purple                 PCU-60122            52560
Candy Apple Red         PCU-60137            902979
Electric Orange            PCU-30132            90621
Arctic Silver                 PCU-73120             910517
Extreme Green            PCU-40134             906120

By the way, all of these were pulled from a Snap-on site that I found in South America. If you hit this link:

http://www.tecmind.cl/catalog%20snapON/CAT1000i_Tool_Storage_Accessories.pdf

And scroll to the bottom, they can be found. There are also a lot of part numbers cross referenced for slides, etc.

Actually I saved all the sticky stuff like vendor lists, links etc. right on the heels of the bannings and several days before I hooked up with Rusty to open this place. When Rusty fired me up and I began construction I ended up copy pasting everything direct from the site anyway in anticipation of the pending implosion. By the time he pulled the plug I had all the info I really wanted. I just had hoped to carefully harvest many more members before he knew. My mistake was beginning that process with PM instead of more quietly, and secretly as I originally intended to!  :-[

However, if in fact Russ L did tip him off then I would not have made it long in any event, because I have had great trust in Russ, and he would have been among the first notified about this site, so I guess it might not have mattered how I approached the deal!

Respectfully submitted by Sir Spamalot!  :)) :D ;)

Any idea where you can buy the Snap-on red paint (PPG Wet Spray Ditzler code: 73504)? I have tried to order it from the Snap On web site but no luck. My Dad came across a 1955 KRH-300B Rolla-Bench box that he's restoring and I wanted to get him some paint for it

Thanks

Keviin,

A larger paint supply house should be able to mix it for you. If needed, they shouuld also be able to put it in spray cans for you or you can go with single stage or base/clear coat out of a spray gun. All they will need is the PPG paint code noted above.

There have been other threads that discussed paint color matches for other brand boxes. Will that info be added to this thread or is this just about Snap-On red?

Yes I too am interested in other colors than SO reds. I have 2 Craftsman boxes from the early '60s (I think) very heavy, handles on the ends and on top. One is a mechanics box and the other is a carpenters box --- all heavy guage steel construction and metal trays (LOL no Plastic)

They are in decent shape as is but I would like to refresh the paint on both. Don't want to wing it but would like (of course) to find a perfect match.

ANY suggestions would be appreciated --- Thanks in Advance.    Rich

On edit --- Sorry I forgot the boxes are traditional craftsman Gray.  BTW yes I did google and found nothing promising. It's possible that I missed  something in the searches.

Anybody have a paint code or a close rattle can match for Mac boxes ( red ones ). They seem to be more of an orange color compared to Snap-on.

EDIT :
I did a search & found this--
http://www.mactools.com/product/tabid/120/p-317480-mbp2.aspx

I sure wouldn't pay $22.00  for a spray bomb.

that is not unusual for an oem paint match.  they seem to be nuts on custom paint.

Not sure if this belongs here but please move it if inappropriate here.  For those who use old wooden machinist chests and want info on dating, identifying, etc., this site is a wealth of information.  Ted Johnson has done a fantastic amount of research and compiled the results on this site.
