e-Bay Sun battery charger -- BC160
« on: June 25, 2011, 11:42:47 AM »
One of the best battery chargers ever made -- bar none!!

I was looking for one of these for almost three years; without success. Finally settled on a vintage Marquette Redi-Fast unit, but this is a good deal.

If you've been thinking of buying a charger, this is one auction to watch.

GF, I have to disagree.  At a $100 or more, that is no bargain.  At $50. yes, but at $100. that is a risky purchase despite the cool factor.  He doesn't say it works.  If I had it to sell in my store, yes the price would be $100, but I would guarantee it worked and you could touch and feel it.

That said, I don't know the Sun market and GF does so I may be out of line.

Your not out of line Phil. You know tools better than most. However, in this case it's a very rare item. These chargers were so well received that they have achieved cult-like status. Anyone who owns one will not part with it, and those that come up for sale are usually in VERY poor cosmetic and/or electrical condition.

If it were any other charger then the price would be way over the top, but the fact that it's a late 1960's early 70's vintage Sun BC-160 in good condition makes this a very special auction. When I was actively looking for this machine, I'd have gladly paid double the price -- even if it wasn't in working order.

Goodfellow, you need to buy that Sun charger and sell your Marquette to offset the cost. I bet many here would gladly pay the $100 for the Marquette and then you could have the Sun unit that you really want.
You boys better hold on cause i'm gonna have to stand on it!

I thought about it Buck, but I'm content with the Marquette. It was a labor of love to refurbish that thing and it works very well, so I'm not inclined to part with it.

I must admit that the auction is testing my "will power", but I'll stand aside and let someone else have a chance at this one.
